The Bannister Academy Library envisions co-existence with the school, helping and supporting its goal of providing quality education, life-long learning, and producing graduates with character, competencies, and a sense of social responsibility.
The Bannister Academy Library aims to provide quality library service by:
1. Providing access to informational materials in a variety of formats;
2. Providing instruction in information literacy;
3. Stimulating interests in reading and finding and using information ideas;
4. Working with teachers to develop educational strategies to meet the informational needs of students and to augment teaching and learning, and
5. Supporting the school curriculum and reading initiatives.
6. Providing a safe space where ideas and creativity can flow freely without prohibitions.
Aside from the physical library materials, the Library also provides access to several online subscriptions. Currently, the subscriptions available to all the users are as follows:
The school, through the Library, is currently subscribed to several databases provided by EBSCO. These are EXPLORA, a database that provides quality research and reference materials mainly catering K-12 students, and the EBSCOhost database, which includes several databases from dictionaries and encyclopedias to research publications from several world renowned individuals and schools.
The Philippine E-Journals (PEJ) is an online collection of academic publications of different higher education institutions and professional organizations. Its sophisticated database allows users to easily locate abstracts, full journal articles, and links to related research materials.
BuriBooks is the largest ebook library of Filipino children’s books readily available to the public. Their digital library contains titles in both languages for users to read and learn the way they are most comfortable. Our Filipino Language teacher use these materials in order to bolster their classes and give relevant readings to their students.
Braining camp is an online platform for teachers that focuses on using technology to make abstract math more interactive and visual for learners. They offer digital manipulatives that can be more convenient, easier to use, and include many special features to facilitate learning.
Information Literacy
The librarian provides its users with training in accessing, retrieving, and assessing the accuracy, validity, and reliability of the information readily available in the Internet. Proper citation and use of other people’s works would also be discussed during a set date preferably before the start of the school year.
Research Guidance
The librarian also provides assistance and guidance to individuals conducting their research by providing them with the necessary materials and sources needed, and if not possible where to access them.
The Library also manages the school’s LMS – Managebac. It is an Integrated Learning Platform that combines curriculum planning, assessment, reporting, and attendance into one unified platform with a consistent, modern and mobile-ready interface, providing a seamless & integrated experience for coordinators, teachers, students and parents that is also ready for IB Diploma Programme deployment.
